I have a strong connection to San Albino. Before coming to the Catholic Church, I was exploring other traditions within the Christian faith. In El Paso, Texas, I attended St. Albin’s Episcopal Church, which led me to the Catholic Church.
Saint Alban (Latin: Albanus) is venerated as the first recorded British Christian martyr, making him the British protomartyr. His feast day is June 22.
Key aspects of St. Alban’s life and story:
- Martyrdom: Tradition holds that Alban sheltered a Christian priest (Amphibalus), converted to Christianity, and was martyred in place of the priest during a persecution of Christians in Roman Britain.
- Location: Alban’s martyrdom is traditionally associated with Verulamium (modern-day St. Albans).
